(EN) Karin Carlander is a Danish contemporary weaver and textile artist. In her work she reinterprets
traditional Nordic crafts and the use of textiles for practical everyday purposes.
“I work with functional textiles, because I think that the objects we handle in connection
with everyday chores and activities should hold artistic value.”
PHILOSOPHY
Anyone who masters a craft holds tacit knowledge that is conveyed through one’s hands and by example.
With Textile No. Karin Carlander brings her hand-woven designs into a contemporary context and creates
a transparent brand with as few intermediaries as possible between the artistic process and the end-user.
These qualities and well thought reflections are stored into the design,
and can be sensed in the final textiles, even when they become industrially manufactured.
(DE)Karin Carlander ist eine dänische zeitgenössische Weberin und Textilkünstlerin. In ihrer Arbeit interpretiert sie
das traditionelle nordische Handwerk und die Verwendung von Textilien für den praktischen Alltag neu.
"Ich arbeite mit funktionellen Textilien, weil ich der Meinung bin, dass die Objekte,
mit denen wir in Verbindung mit alltäglichen Aufgaben und Aktivitäten umgehen, einen künstlerischen Wert haben sollten."
PHILOSOPHIE
Jeder, der ein Handwerk beherrscht, besitzt stillschweigendes Wissen, das durch seine Hände
und durch sein Beispiel vermittelt wird. Mit Textile No. bringt Karin Carlander ihre handgewebten Designs
in einen zeitgenössischen Kontext und schafft eine transparente Marke mit möglichst wenigen
Vermittlern zwischen dem künstlerischen Prozess und dem Endverbraucher.
Diese Qualitäten und durchdachten Reflexionen werden im Design gespeichert und sind
in den fertigen Textilien spürbar, auch wenn sie industriell hergestellt werden.
