Ragnar Axelsson Where the World is Melting

For over 40 years, Ragnar Axelsson (born 1958) has been
photographing people, animals and landscapes in the most
remote regions of Greenland, Iceland and Siberia. In simple
black and white images, he captures the elementary human
experience in nature at the edge of the habitable world.
Axelsson visualises the extraordinary relationships between
people, animals and places in the Arctic and their extreme
environment - relationships that are changing in profound and
complex ways due to unprecedented climate change. "Where the
World is Melting" is Axelsson's second book with Kehrer Verlag
after Arctic Heroes (2020) and includes his highly acclaimed
series "Faces of the North", "Glacier" and "Last Days of the Arctic".

Seit über 40 Jahren fotografiert Ragnar Axelsson (geb. 1958) Menschen,
Tiere und Landschaften in den entlegensten Regionen Grönlands, Islands
und Sibiriens. In schlichten Schwarz-Weiss-Bildern fängt er die elementare
menschliche Erfahrung in der Natur am Rande der bewohnbaren Welt ein.
Axelsson macht die aussergewöhnlichen Beziehungen zwischen Menschen,
Tieren und Orten in der Arktis und ihrer extremen Umwelt sichtbar -
Beziehungen, die sich aufgrund des beispiellosen Klimawandels auf
tiefgreifende und komplexe Weise ändern. "Where the World is Melting"
ist nach Arctic Heroes (2020) Axelssons zweites Buch im Kehrer Verlag
und umfasst unter anderem seine viel beachteten Serien "Faces of the
