Eine Afrikanisches Reise

In den Siebziger Jahren war das Reisen bei weitem nicht so selbstverständlich wie in der heutigen globalisierten Welt.
Aber das hielt den preisgekrönten Esslinger Fotografen Dieter Blum nicht davon ab, vom Maghreb bis nach Kapstadt zu reisen - und zwar auf dem Landweg.
Mit zwei Weggefährten und einem VW Bully brach Blum am 1. Januar 1974 in Richtung Marokko auf, um mit seiner Kamera das Leben in Afrika jenseits der touristischen Pfaden festzuhalten.
Nach fast drei Monaten und mehr als 18.000 Kilometer auf dem Tacho, mit Sandstürmen in der Sahara, Schlammpisten in Zentralafrika,
die sich nur im Schneckentempo überqueren ließen, zu viel Ananas, um etwas in den Magen zu bekommen und einer kurzfristigen Inhaftierung durch die Schergen Idi Amins kamen sie halbwegs heil und froh in Kapstadt an.
Ein Abenteuer, wie man es sich knapp vierzig Jahre später kaum noch vorstellen kann, das Blum jedoch mit farbenprächtigen Bildern dokumentiert hat.
Der neue Bildband zeigt ein einzigartiges Panorama von Reisebildem, er ist eine ethnografisch-historische Fotoreportage der afrikanischen Wildnis,
des immer noch unbekannten Kontinents, der eigentlich nur 12 Kilometer von Europa entfernt ist.

In the seventies travelling was by far not as natural as in today's globalised world.
But that didn't stop the award-winning photographer Dieter Blum from travelling from the Maghreb to Cape Town by land.
With two companions and a VW Bully, Blum set off for Morocco on 1 January 1974 to capture with his camera life in Africa beyond the tourist paths.
After almost three months and more than 18,000 kilometres on the speedometer, with sandstorms in the Sahara, mud tracks in Central Africa that could only be crossed at a snail's pace,
too much pineapple to get anything in their stomach and a short-term detention by the henchmen Idi Amins, they arrived in Cape Town halfway intact and happy.
An adventure you can hardly imagine forty years later, but which Blum documented with colourful pictures.
The new illustrated book shows a unique panorama of travel pictures, it is an ethnographic-historical photo reportage of the African wilderness,
the still unknown continent that is actually only 12 kilometres away from Europe.
