Mit nur 20 Britischen Pfund in der Tasche wanderte der Engländer John Boultbee Brooks 1865 nach Birmingham aus, wo er ein Jahr später unter dem Namen JB Brooks & Co ein Geschäft für Pferdegeschirr und Ledergadgets eröffnete. Zehn Jahre später ist sein Pferd leider verstorben. Da er sich kein neues leisten konnte, kaufte er sich stattdessen ein Velo. Dessen Sattel empfand er als derart unbequem, dass er sich an den Entwurf eines eigenen machte.
Kurz darauf sicherte er sich sein erstes Sattel-Patent. Es sprach sich schnell herum, dass Herr Brooks wunderschöne, handgemachte Ledersattel herstellte. Beflügelt vom Erfolg, begann er zusätzlich noch Velotaschen und weitere Bike- Accessoires zu entwerfen. Die traditionelle Handwerkskunst wurde später von Generation zu Generation weitergegeben und blieb bis 1958 im Besitz der Brooks Familie. Nach einem kurzen Ausflug zur Raleigh Gruppe ist Brooks England heute eine eigenständige Marke, welche ganz im Sinne der Gründerfamilie Taschen und Lederaccessoires herstellt und damit erfolgreicher ist denn je. Denn heute fährt man stilvoll Velo, und die handgemachten Lederaccessoires treffen den Zeitgeist und schmücken jeden Drahtesel.

The traditional craftsmanship was later passed down from generation to generation and remained in the possession of the Brooks family until 1958. After a short excursion to the Raleigh Group, Brooks England is now an independent brand that manufactures bags and leather accessories in the spirit of the founding family and is therefore more successful than ever.
