(EN) The individuality of the human being is at the centre of projet NU. Inspired by her, we produce NUs, handmade unique pieces from robust stoneware clay, in a tiny pottery studio in Bern.
projet NU arose from the desire to break the taboo of nudity and wants to encourage people to accept naturalness, far away from the ideals and norms of our society. NUs show the interesting variety of bodies and their uniqueness. With a NU you carry the representation of a human body in this world in your hands. Every NU with its imperfections is as perfect and unique as an individual.
The production of a NU takes several days to two weeks and includes the following stages:

- Turning

- Modelling

- Raw firing between 1200-1300°C, 24h

- Glazing with metal salts

- Glaze firing between 1020-1300°C, 24h

10% of the proceeds of projet NU will be donated together with Kitchener to a women's rights organisation that works against FGM/C*.

For more love and solidarity in our world.

*On the subject FGM/C

Definition FGM/C:

Female Genital Mutilation (Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting) is a destructive procedure in which the female genitals are partially or completely removed or injured. This is done by means of knives, scissors, razor blades - mostly undisinfected. This is intended to prevent the sexual lust of the woman. Mutilation usually takes place before puberty, often in girls between four and eight years of age, and now also increasingly in infants who are only a few days, weeks or months old.

Occurrence

Female genital mutilation occurs mainly in Africa, especially in northeast, east and west Africa. But they also exist in the Middle East, in Southeast Asia - and among immigrants in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In total, UNICEF estimates that there are at least 37 countries in which there is a prevalence of up to 98% female genital mutilation/circumcision among girls and women aged 15 to 49. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that at least 200 million women worldwide are affected. Every year, three million more girls fall victim to mutilation. There are 1 million girls and women in Europe who are mutilated or threatened by FGM.

What consequences does FGM/C have?

Female genital mutilation has serious health (physical and psychological) consequences. Immediately after the procedure, severe bleeding, inflammation, tetanus, bladder paralysis or blood poisoning can occur - consequences that are often fatal. HIV/AIDS can also be transmitted through unpurified instruments.
In addition to the psychological trauma left behind by the procedure and the loss of sexual sensation, the victims often complain in the long term about pain when urinating and during menstruation. Sitting or walking can be torturous due to the rubbing of clothing against the scars or pressure points that appear. Cysts, abscesses, infections of the bladder and incontinence can occur. Infertility is also one of the possible long-term consequences. Sexual intercourse is often experienced as painful.
At the birth of a child, increased bleeding and tissue tears can occur. The birth can take longer than usual, caesarean sections are frequent.
